Read the text, then its explanation

General educational material. Do not distribute an actual estate without establishing all heirs, debts and valid bequests and consulting a qualified authority. Local law and juristic approaches may affect the result.

Prescribed shares and the remainder

Abdullah ibn Abbas — reported in both Sahih collections.

Arabic text
«أَلْحِقُوا الْفَرَائِضَ بِأَهْلِهَا فَمَا بَقِيَ فَهْوَ لِأَوْلَى رَجُلٍ ذَكَرٍ»

Educational explanation

The report sets out assigning prescribed shares, then considering the eligible residuary heir under the relevant conditions. Being a male relative alone does not establish entitlement to the remainder.

Property left to heirs

Abu Huraira — Sahih Muslim, Book of Inheritance.

Arabic text
«مَنْ تَرَكَ مَالًا فَلِلْوَرَثَةِ وَمَنْ تَرَكَ كَلًّا فَإِلَيْنَا»

Educational explanation

The report assigns property left behind to heirs. Its second clause concerns dependants in need and the Prophet’s responsibility for them. Necessary expenses, debts and valid bequests before distribution are explained through their separate evidence, rather than added to the wording of this hadith.

Bequests and the interests of heirs

Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas — Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Wills.

Excerpt from a longer hadith
«فَالثُّلُثُ، وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ»

Educational explanation

The report answers Sa’d’s question about the amount of a bequest and considers the welfare of his heirs. It does not require bequeathing one third. Validity, conditions and the amount available after prior obligations need a qualified review.

How references are used

  • Verses link to their numbers and hadith to the collection and reference. A summary is never presented as prophetic wording.
  • Hadith text, legal explanation and arithmetic examples are distinct. Authenticity alone does not make an example applicable to every family.
  • Interpretive cases name their source; local law and juristic differences require review before an actual estate is distributed.
